この展覧会のテーマである By the Sea と相応しい海辺の市 横浜にある アートギャラリーアウルで展示できることをとても嬉しく思います。
ここに紹介されている作品は、私が最近経験した或る強い感情の視覚的解釈また比喩的表現から作り出されたものです。ある程度瞑想的であるがいわゆる宗教的なモチーフを扱っているとは言えません。色、音、動き, リズム、ニュアンスなどで構成された抽象的な映像のジェスチャーによって引き起こされる様々な感情的な世界を感じてみることを願っています.
I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to show my work at Art Gallery Owl located in Yokohama (horizontal beach), the seaside city that nicely matches with the theme of the exhibition, By the Sea.
The work samples presented here are visual interpretations and metaphors of the intense emotions I recently experienced. I hope my work gives the viewer the opportunity to examine their emotional world prompted by the abstract filmic gestures of colors, sounds, movements, rhythms, and nuances. They are contemplative to a certain extent but not explicitly so in terms of typical religious or spiritual motifs.

韓国出身で、現在はアメリカに居住してる成俊基(ソン・ジュンギ)は、アーティストであり、ウエスタン ケンタッキー 大学の教授でもある。
大学で絵画を専攻したが、米 シラキュース大学のコンピューター アート大学院に入学してからメディア・アートを作り始める。そこで1960 年代のコンピューター グラフィックスの開拓者の 1 人である エドワード ザジェックと出会い、彼のリアルタイムのアートワークに強い影響を受ける。成俊基の最近の作品は、節制された視覚言語を使用したミニマルなアニメーションが主な特徴であり、哲学的に深遠で、視覚的に美しく、概念的にユニークな美を追求している。
彼の作品は、米国および世界多くの展覧会やフェスティバルに上映される。例えばスペインのジローナ映画祭、ウクライナのリノリウム国際現代アニメーションとメディアアートフェスティバル、 トルコのアートスピークアウト、アメリカのビジョン – デジタル ビデオ ACM SIGGRAPHなど。
Originally from Korea, currently based in the U.S., Joon Sung is an artist and a professor at Western Kentucky University.
Having come from a painting background, he started making time-based work since joining the graduate studies in computer art at Syracuse University where he met his mentor Edward Zajec – one of the pioneers of computer graphics in the 1960s – and was strongly influenced by Zajec’s real-time artwork originating in his early paintings.
Joon Sung’s recent works are largely characterized by a minimalist animation using refined visual languages through which he seeks beauty that is philosophically profound, visually exquisite, and conceptually unique.
His work has been included in many exhibitions and festivals in the U.S. and abroad, such as Girona Film Festival, Spain; Linoleum International Contemporary Animation and Media-Art Festival, Ukraine; Art Speaks Out, Türkiye; Enhanced Vision – Digital Video ACM SIGGRAPH, USA.
